Liara was raised on a farm in a small village near the western border of Camelot. When her parents were killed by raiders, she had nowhere to go but to the palace, where her aunt, who ran the kitchen, secured her a position as a servant. It did not take long for her affinity for growing things to earn her the position of the palace gardener.

Liara always looks a little bit wild - her hair a bit messy, with at least one flower (if not more) lost in it, dirt on her hands and under her nails. She dreams of expanding the gardens to grow enough food to feed the entire village, not just the palace, and of creating a flower garden in remembrance of those who've perished in defense of Camelot.

Unbeknownst to Liara, her mother was born a dryad. When she fell in love with Liara's father, she relinquished her magic in order to live a mortal life with him. That magic, the power over all things that grow from the earth, passed to Liara upon her mother's death.

Modern AU:
Liara grew up knowing her true nature and with her magical ability from birth. She lives in Washington state, on property that has belonged to her father's family since before land records were kept. They were guardians of the forest, protecting the trees from logging, and ran a very successful farm. This is where Liara's mother met her father, and chose to become mortal to be with him. Liara was very close to her parents and loved the farm, but not farming. She is a nurturer of plants, taking time and care with each one. She went to college to study horticulture but after one semester came back home because she missed her family too much. When she was 25 her parents were killed in a car accident, and she was left with the farm and the proceeds of their life insurance policies, which is enough to live on while she decides what she is going to do next.
